Let Superhealth Help with Your Upper Limb Joint Pain

Shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand pain are extremely limiting. All the joints of the upper limbs require two opposite capabilities. They must be stable to support load, but also have high degrees of movement. The Shoulder in particular must have mobility in moving forward, backward,  to the side,  and also twist in both directions. Most of our shoulder and arm movements are combinations of these types of motion. One of the common restrictions is the loss of twist of the upper arm in the shoulder joint. This in conjunction with a loss of side or forward movement will result in a “Frozen Shoulder”. This very painful and limiting condition is common in women in early menopause.

The Shoulder support and movement muscle's nerve supply is located in the lower neck and upper back. Poor spinal alignment will result in weak associated muscles and joint muscle imbalance. This is significant because the high range of movement of the shoulder joint means that when the muscles are imbalanced, the joint bursa is often inflamed. The collar bone is the only bony support for the shoulder to the skeleton, so when it is unstable, a weak and painful shoulder will result. These symptoms are often mistaken for tendon damage. Getting an accurate diagnosis will result in better recovery.

The Elbow is a simple hinge joint, that carries a huge load. When it is not in ideal alignment symptoms in the joint and also in the forearm and upper arm muscles will often present. Analyising the joint and correcting small mis-alignments will make a big difference to tennis or golfers elbow.

The hand and wrist are highly complex joint areas. There are 2 rows of bones in the wrist that need to move around each other to allow us to grip strongly and turn the palm up and down. The tendons that originate in elbow region travel into the wrist and hand. Their pathway in the arm needs to be unrestricted for comfortable strong grip and movement to be performed.

At Superhealth we will assess all the elements that are associated with ideal movement and strength in the upper limb. Finding the source of your problem is the first essential step in finding the correct solution.
